OUR HISTory
Our story began with a simple, yet profound idea conceived by our founder in 2014: To advance filtration and make it more efficient and sustainable, for the benefit of the end-user and the environment.
This vision aimed to increase filtration process robustness and ensure maximum yield while reducing both its physical and environmental footprint. Today, we are proud to say that we have transformed that idea into reality. Sani Membranes now offers the most efficient and advanced filtration and separation technology in its field on the market: Vibro® Membrane Filtration (VMF).
2014: A Breakthrough Idea Becomes a Company
A brilliant idea strikes Henrik Hjelmsmark and he invents the Hollow Plate™ technology. Based on it, he founds Sani Membranes — in his basement. The coming years are spent refining, testing, and proving the technology, laying the groundwork for the exponential growth that is to come.
2018: From Innovation to Industry Momentum
We invent, patent, and launch the Vibro® Membrane Filtration (VMF) technology, enabling low‑shear, high‑performance filtration beyond the limits of conventional systems. Industry validation follows swiftly as VMF garners the FoodTech Award for Best New Product and proves its capabilities across multiple sectors.
2019: First Steps Towards Pharma
We deliver our first GMP‑ and FDA‑aligned Vibro® unit — a major milestone proving VMF’s readiness for stringent biopharma processes and opening the door to regulated markets.
2021: Addition of New Co-Owner and Partner With Significant Accomplishments in Pharma
Seeing the immense potential in Sani Membranes’ Vibro® Membrane Filtration (VMF) technology, Martin Glensbjerg (HMG Technology ApS) joins Sani Membranes as co-owner and board member. He brings extensive experience from founding and scaling ChemoMetec A/S into a global leader in automated cell counting solutions for the pharma industry.
We become a public limited company (Sani Membranes A/S), marking another significant step toward becoming a trusted, long‑term partner for pharma and biotech.
2022: Major Strategic Capital Injection Accelerates Growth
Following two years of successful collaboration, Martin Glensbjerg (HMG Technology ApS) elects to further strengthen his commitment to the development of Sani Membranes. Demonstrating continued confidence in the technology, he leads an initiative to secure a strategic investment of 40m DKK for the company. This investment will enhance the Sani Membranes’ financial stability and provide essential resources to facilitate rapid industrialization and scaling.
2023: Facility & Capacity Expansion
In response to rising demand, we relocate to larger manufacturing premises, modernize our production equipment and expand our inventory storage. These enhancements enable us to significantly increase production capacity and efficiently meet the needs of our growing customer base.
2024: Sharper Focus, Stronger Execution & New CEO
Martin Glensbjerg of HMG Holding acquires majority ownership, enabling faster decision-making and a clearer strategic direction. Kenneth Kaiser Paustian is appointed as CEO to lead a focused transformation, leveraging his experience in finance, operations, and process optimization to strengthen execution and position Sani Membranes as a trusted filtration partner for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
2025: Quality First: ISO Certification & Validated Performance
We implement a structured, value‑driven quality system and achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification. New production investments and increased inventory buffers ensure reliability. Several independent articles from Penn State University validate VMF’s performance, marking its full technological maturity.
2026: Poised For Expansion
Sani Membranes stands on the brink of major commercial expansion. With an innovative yet sophisticated technology, experienced leadership and quality system to back us up, we are ready to make true on our promise and transform bioprocessing as you know it.
